Da’s ship, the LSM394, was stationed at Subic Bay, Philippines. Mission: pick up surrendering Japanese troops.
With the surrender of Japan, our brave men and women began the return to their homes, families and jobs.
Grandpa Taraba’s ship, the USS Liscome Bay, was sunk by a Japanese sub on November 24, 1943 with 644 men lost.
The Taraba’s three-flat in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. We lived in the middle flat.
