Windy City Reviews – ‘Don’t Lift Up Your Hood and Cuss, Call Us!’

Bonnie’s early years were hard. She was bullied about her weight, her brother was born with an illness that lasted into his teenage years, and the family that is the center of her world had to deal with infidelity.

She weaves a heartwarming tale of a loving, supportive family that time and again finds a way to show up for each other.

It is overall a great, uplifting read. I would recommend this memoir, especially to anyone who may be deployed in the military or hoping for some sort of dynamic life change – Michelle Burwell, Chicago Writers Association

I really enjoyed the old time Chicago life as Bonnie told it through her humor. My grandparents and parents grew up in Chicago too so even as a little kid I remember that Chicago neighborhood feeling when we’d visit them.

I was really enraged about how Bonnie was treated as a young, overweight woman looking for work as a secretary despite her outstanding qualifications. Ultimately Bonnie rose to the challenge and proved her worth to everyone. It was a beautiful love story. –  Verified Amazon Purchase

A light must read!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a memoir about a seemingly ordinary family that had real family issues and triumphs in it. The main character goes from childhood, to teenage years, to getting married to a military man and the “adventures” that come with that. There are laugh out loud moments and moments that you really can empathize with the author. If you like a light read with some humor in it, this is a book for you. –  Verified Amazon Purchase

Sadness and joy – all related to family
Heartwarming and entertaining read. Sure to conjure memories of growing up, especially for Baby-Boomers. Bonnie tells genuine life stories about hope and fear, adventure and boredom, disaster and success, sadness and joy – all related to family, school, work, travel, friends, and some very interesting pets. And surviving it all very well. – Verified Amazon Purchase
